gx 460 suv. toyota suspended sales of the lexus suv last night after consumer reports announced its tests indicated the vehicles are a rollover risk and advised people flat out not to buy them. nbc's jeff rossen joins us from chicago. so, jeff, what's the latest on the federal safety officials getting involved and what is toyota saying now? >> reporter: right. toyota is now saying they're just trying to identify and analyze the problem. toyota was shell shocked i think as consumers were, we all were by this. "consumer reports" incredibly rare that they would come out with a do not buy warning for consumers. often they say this car is better than that car but to flat out say don't buy this car because it's dangerous is something in a new league. the last time they did it was 2001. toyota of course, tamron, under incredible pressure with the gas pedal controversy and critics who say they didn't respond fast enough to that. within hours of "consumer reports" coming out with this warning to consumers, they, themselves, put a stop sales order to their dealerships nationwide. you can't go

that day police finds her toyota on fire just a few miles away. no signs of the 46-year-old, they put out a description and began a missing persons search. just a few weeks later and just a few miles away in this wooded area in owe ignition the discovery of a body. the body police found was so badly decomposed, police couldn't prove it was the body but now they say thanks to dna testing, they're sure it was her. >> wondering why she would have been killed and somebody would is set her vehicle on fire. >> police say shortly after she left her house to get the cigarettes, her red card was used at this eatery. >> we're thinking maybe somebody there that night could have seen her, most interested in is if someone may have accosted her right there at the restaurant. >> an autopsy proves nina was murdered but police won't say how. police will say that nina's husband who does not speak any english has been positively ruled out as a suspect in his wife's death. he has since returned to the couple's home country of russia. >> thank you. police say anyone with information on the case can earn a rew

money. i was fascinated to see this associated press poll, it was taken back in march when toyota was sort of at the height of what was happening to it. people were asked if they favor u.s. vehicles or asian vehicles. 46% of people favored asian people in 2006. look at how those numbered changed in march, 38% favor american vehicles, 33% favor asian vehicles. it's a rise of nine points for american vehicles but a drop of 13 for asian vehicles. is that a reflection of toyota's woes or are people coming back around? >> that is a remarkable finding. a year ago nobody could have predicted it would show results like that. toyota is bringing down some of the other japanese brands a little bit. it is bringing down honda and nissan a little bit. the other thing going on, the american cars are getting better. >> let's look at some of those. the ford fusion, the 2010 motor trend car of the year. >> this is a great car. this is the type of cars they neglected for a long time. a mainstream family car, they forgot about in favor of suvs. it is a terrific car. >> the mustang? >> we have muscle
